BAREILLY: In a weird incident, Budaun police registered an FIR towards an unidentified lady for allegedly tying a rat with a thread and hanging it in entrance of a road canine. In a purported video of the incident, the canine gulped the rat and killed it.
After the video was extensively shared on social media, animal rights activist Vikendra Sharma lodged a criticism at Kotwali police station in Budaun metropolis.Sharma informed TOI, “The incident was reported in Shahbaznagar locality, and I submitted a criticism together with the video to the SHO. Police registered an FIR beneath part 325 (mischief by killing or poisoning animal) of BNS, together with part 11 of Prevention of Cruelty towards Animals Act.”
He added, “The girl confirmed monumental cruelty in the direction of the animal. The SHO initially refused to register an FIR and mentioned a rat isn’t an animal. Nevertheless, after I confirmed him that it comes beneath the animal class, he checked with seniors and registered the FIR. I’ll pursue the case and guarantee motion is taken.”
SHO Kotwali, Rajesh Kumar Singh, mentioned, “After preliminary investigation, we registered an FIR beneath related sections. We’re verifying the video and looking for the lady.”
Notably, that is the second such FIR registered in Budaun for killing a rat. In November 2022, a person was booked for drowning a rat after tying its tail to a brick.
