Accusing Congress of spreading misinformation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday (August 27, 2024) mentioned the newly launched UPS is a brand new pension scheme and never a rollback.
“It’s not a rollback… it’s completely different from OPS (Outdated Pension Scheme) and NPS (Nationwide Pension System). It’s clearly a brand new bundle,” she mentioned, including, the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) is healthier and can fulfill most authorities workers.
UPS is tailor-made in such a style that each calculation matches and even the federal government shouldn’t be burdened an excessive amount of, she mentioned.
Ms. Sitharaman expressed hope that many of the states would undertake UPS “because it has plenty of advantages for workers”.
