A mysterious 18th-century diamond necklace linked to former French Queen Marie Antoinette can be auctioned in November, positive artwork firm Sotheby’s introduced on Monday. The necklace includes roughly 500 diamonds and is estimated to fetch between $1.8 and $2.8 million.
The public sale will happen on November 11 in Geneva, with on-line bidding beginning on October 25.It is going to be featured within the “Royal & Noble Jewels” sale.
The necklace, which has been privately owned in Asia, can be publicly displayed for the primary time in 50 years. It’s at present on show in London and can later be proven in Hong Kong, New York, and Taiwan.
Andres White Correal, chairman of Sotheby’s jewellery division, commented on the necklace’s rarity: “It is a great discover as a result of, usually, jewellery from the 18th century was damaged up with a purpose to be repurposed. So to have an intact piece from the Georgian interval of this significance, with this quantity of carats… is totally fabulous.”

The necklace, composed of three rows of diamonds with diamond tassels at every finish, was as soon as owned by the Marquesses of Anglesey, an Anglo-Welsh aristocratic household. It was reportedly worn on the coronations of King George VI in 1937 and Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.
