A person was arrested for allegedly conning a number of middle-aged girls throughout India by marrying them, after which exploiting them financially, police stated.

The person, recognized as Biranchi Narayan Nath of Chhendipada in Odisha’s Angul district, focused these girls by way of a matrimonial web site, they stated.

He recognized himself as a railway worker, an Revenue Tax inspector or a Customs officer on his totally different faux profiles. He focused middle-aged girls who have been single, divorced or widowed, police stated.

He later extorted these girls by threatening them to make public their personal photographs and movies, he stated.

Circumstances have been registered towards him at varied police stations in Odisha, apart from Rajasthan, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, police stated.

He was arrested after a case was registered with the Cyber Crime Unit of Odisha CID-Crime Department by a girl from Cuttack.

This lady had misplaced her husband in a street accident in 2022 and had two daughters. She met the accused after registering on the matrimonial web site in October final 12 months.

He allegedly extorted her of round Rs 5 lakh in money and 32 grams of gold. She ultimately found his different relationships, following which she filed the grievance.

A case was registered and an investigation is underway, police stated.
