Opposition will fight for J&K statehood in Parliament, on streets: Rahul Gandhi | India News – Times of India

JAMMU: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi issued a stern warning to BJP-led Union authorities Wednesday, vowing that the opposition INDIA bloc will “hit the highway and use full power” each inside Parliament and out of doors if J&Okay’s statehood isn’t restored after the continuing meeting elections. The three-phase elections will wrap up on Oct 1, with votes counted on Oct 8.
Addressing a rally in Jammu, Gandhi reiterated the first election promise of the Congress-Nationwide Convention (NC) alliance, saying the restoration of statehood is J&Okay’s “proper and future”.He mentioned: “J&Okay can not transfer ahead with out it.”
Gandhi identified that whereas different states had been created after 1947, this was the primary time a state had been lowered to a Union territory. “States have been divided. Telangana was shaped out of Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand out of Bihar, and Chhattisgarh out of Madhya Pradesh. However for the primary time, a state was become a Union territory. This was completed to J&Okay,” Gandhi mentioned.
J&Okay misplaced its particular standing after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019 and the following bifurcation of the area into two Union territories, together with Ladakh.
The previous Congress president condemned the transfer as “injustice” and accused the Narendra Modi authorities of snatching away the democratic rights of the area’s folks. “As we speak, J&Okay is run by folks from different states,” he mentioned, focusing on lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha, whom he described as a “king, not LG”.
Gandhi alleged that so long as the present administration led by the LG continues “outsiders will get advantages, and you can be sidelined”.
Later, Gandhi spoke at a rally in Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, the place he targeted on the financial potential of the area’s apple. Holding an apple in his hand, he declared: “This apple needs to be taken overseas. Your future lies on this.”
He promised that if the Congress-NC alliance is elected, it could promote the Sopore apple in worldwide markets. “I need this apple to go to America. If this apple has to achieve Japan and America, step one needs to be the restoration of statehood. With out that, it’s not potential,” he mentioned.
He linked the struggles of apple farmers to the affect of billionaire Gautam Adani. “The rationale why farmers aren’t getting good costs for his or her apples, whether or not right here or in Himachal, is due to Adani,” PTI quoted him as saying.
