A brand new document of over 7.28 crore earnings tax returns have been filed by the July 31 deadline, the earnings tax division mentioned on August 2.
The earnings tax returns (ITRs) filed for the evaluation 12 months 2024-25 compares to six.77 crore filed final 12 months, it added.
“Out of the full ITRs of seven.28 crore filed for AY 2024-25, 5.27 crore have been filed within the new tax regime in comparison with 2.01 crore ITRs filed within the Outdated Tax Regime,” the tax division mentioned in a press release.
The submitting of ITRs peaked on July 31, 2024 (the due date for salaried taxpayers and different non-tax audit instances), with over 69.92 lakh ITRs being filed on a single day.
The division additionally obtained 58.57 lakh ITRs from first-time filers, a good indication of the widening of the tax base.
