NEW DELHI: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Know-how (IIT)-Delhi, has introduced the event of light-weight bulletproof jackets, named ‘ABHED‘ (Superior Ballistics for Excessive Power Defeat), which meet the best risk ranges. The jackets function entrance and rear armours that present complete 360-degree safety, as acknowledged by the defence ministry on Wednesday.
Developed on the DRDO Trade Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE) at IIT-Delhi, the jackets are actually prepared for know-how switch to 3 shortlisted Indian industries. The initiative goals to bolster home manufacturing capabilities in defence tools.
“With a minimal potential weight of 8.2 kg and 9.5 kg for various BIS ranges, these modular-design jackets have entrance and rear armours that present 360-degree safety,” the ministry famous. Samir V Kamat, secretary of the division of defence R&D and chairman of DRDO, expressed his congratulations to DIA-CoE, stating, “The light-weight bulletproof jacket exemplifies the efficient ecosystem of profitable defence R&D by the DRDO, academia, and the business.”
The DIA-CoE was established by modifying the Joint Superior Know-how Centre of the DRDO at IIT-Delhi in 2022, aiming to boost collaboration amongst business, academia, and defence analysis. The centre has been actively pursuing numerous superior know-how tasks, involving DRDO scientists, educational researchers, and business companions, to help India’s defence wants.
