Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s letter to LG never delivered: ‘Abuse of privileges’, say Tihar jail authorities | India News – Times of India



NEW DELHI: Arvind Kejriwal‘s letter to Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena relating to Atishi hoisting the Independence Day flag was not delivered because it was “an abuse of privileges” below the jail guidelines, Tihar jail authorities stated on Monday. They additional requested the Delhi chief minister “to desist from any such impermissible exercise”.
In accordance with the Rule 620 (i), prisoners could be allowed to write down solely to their members of the family, kin and shut pals, the officers stated.
“From a naked studying of the above guidelines, it’s clear that your communication doesn’t qualify within the permissible communication which might be despatched exterior the jail. Subsequently, your letter dated 06.08.2024 has not been despatched to the addressee however has been filed,” the jail authorities stated in a letter to Delhi CM.
The officers stated that if Kejriwal failed to stick to the principles, then they’d “be constrained to invoke the provisions of Delhi Jail Guidelines, 2018, to curtail your privileges.”
Gopal Rai, who oversees the final administration division, after assembly Kejriwal later within the day, instructed officers to rearrange for the flag hoisting by Atishi in his absence.
Kejriwal is at present detained in Tihar jail in reference to a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case associated to an alleged excise coverage rip-off.
The Supreme Courtroom has granted him interim bail within the money-laundering case linked to the excise coverage, which is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
