Congress calls for ‘forceful steps’ to shield Bangladesh minorities | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Congress on Saturday expressed concern over stories of focused assaults on minorities and their locations of worship in Bangladesh. This comes a day after BJP accused opposition events of being mum on the “atrocities” in opposition to Hindus within the neighbouring nation.
Congress’s normal secretary in-charge of communications Jairam Ramesh stated in a submit on X that “whereas noting that there have been influential voices inside Bangladesh calling for the preservation of the nation’s multi-religious heritage, the Congress expresses its concern at stories of focused assaults on minorities there and their properties and locations of worship.”
“Congress hopes that the interim govt in Bangladesh will take forceful steps to instil confidence in minority communities and be certain that they proceed to guide their lives in an environment of safety, dignity and concord,” Ramesh added.
BJP had on Friday criticised opposition events, alleging that their “silence” on the situation of Hindus and different minority communities in Bangladesh is unlucky.
