After Tirupati laddu row, Odisha govt to check high quality of ghee used to organize ‘prasad’ at Puri’s Jagannath temple

PURI: The Odisha authorities on Tuesday determined to check the standard of ghee used for preparation of choices on the Jagannath temple in Puri, an official stated. The choice was taken amid the row over the alleged use of animal fats within the ghee with which the laddus supplied on the Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh are ready.

The choice comes after controversy over the alleged use of animal fats within the ghee with which the laddus supplied on the Tirumala temple in Andhra Pradesh are made.
Puri’s District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain clarified that that although there have been no such allegations right here, the administration will check the ghee’s high quality sued for the preparation of ‘Kotha Bhoga‘ (prasad for the deities) and ‘Baradi Bhoga‘ (prasad on order) on the Twelfth-century shrine.
The one provider of ghee for the prasad in Puri temple is state-run Odisha Milk Federation (Omfed).
“Nonetheless, a call has been taken to look at the usual of ghee being provided by Omfed to allay any worry of adulteration,” he stated, including that discussions shall be held with the Omfed in addition to the temple’s servitors who put together the ‘prasad’.
Jagannath Swain Mohapatra, a servitor, alleged that earlier adulterated ghee was discovered for use for lighting ‘diyas’ or lamps on the temple premises.
