HAL delivers first AL-31FP aero engine to IAF for Su-30MKI aircraft



The AL-31FP aero engines are meant for Sukhoi Su-30MKI plane of the IAF.

Hindustan Aeronautics Restricted (HAL) handed over the primary AL-31FP Aero Engine, manufactured below a 240 engine contract, to IAF on September 30 at Koraput, Odisha.

The contract for 240 AL-31FP Aero Engines for Su-30MKI plane was signed with HAL on September 9, 2024. These engines could be delivered in eight years.

Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary (Defence Manufacturing) lauded HAL’s efforts in delivering the primary engine inside two weeks of signing the contract.

“This key milestone displays HAL’s aero engine manufacturing competency and dedication to help the Su-30MKI fleet of the IAF.  It is rather heartening to see that Koraput division has mastered leading edge applied sciences of aero engine manufacturing and has arrange required infrastructure to match world OEMs. I’m assured that the division is not going to solely serve IAF, however may also play an even bigger position in exporting to world clients,” he stated.

HAL Chairman and Managing Director Dr. D.Ok. Sunil stated that HAL is dedicated to well timed supply of 240 engines.  

“The federal government has envisioned Atmanirbharta to construct a vibrant eco-system in aerospace and defence. Throughout this whole engine manufacturing course of, we intention to interact Indian industries from the current stage of labor share from 40% to greater than 50% within the subsequent 2-3 years and assist in employment technology.
