NEW DELHI: Chief Justice of India DY Chadrachud on Monday reprimanded a petitioner within the Supreme Court and reminded the party-in-person about courtroom room etiquettes.
The petitioner who was in search of a probe towards former CJI Ranjan Gogoi and whereas responding to a query by the apex courtroom, replied ‘yeah, yeah’.
This miffed CJI Chandrachud, who took a powerful exception towards the celebration, reminding the celebration that the courtroom will not be a “espresso store”.
“Do not say yeah, yeah, yeah. Say Sure. This isn’t a espresso store. This can be a courtroom. I’m just a little allergic to folks saying yeah,” the CJI stated.
This isn’t the primary time the CJI has taken exception to the tone of a celebration in courtroom and reminded them of courtroom etiquettes. In March, throughout a NEET-UG listening to, CJI Chandrachud ordered safety to take away senior advocate Mathews Nedumpara following a heated alternate.
The incident occurred when Nedumpara interrupted Narender Hooda, one other lawyer addressing the bench. Regardless of being requested to attend, Nedumpara insisted on talking, claiming he was essentially the most senior lawyer and the amicus. The CJI responded that he had not appointed any amicus and cautioned Nedumpara towards addressing the gallery.
The Chief Justice replied, “I haven’t appointed any amicus.”
The advocate insisted, “For those who don’t respect me, I’ll stroll out.”
When Nedumpara threatened to depart, the Chief Justice instructed safety to escort him out.
“Mr Nedumpara, I’m cautioning you. You’ll not handle the gallery. I’m presiding over the courtroom. Please summon safety and have him escorted out of the courtroom,” he stated.
