Protesting Meiteis face police action in Imphal | India News – Times of India



GUWAHATI: A number of displaced Meitei folks residing in a reduction camp within the valley area of Manipur have been wounded in a conflict with police throughout a rally, organised in Imphal Thursday to demand their proper to return house within the India-Myanmar border city of Moreh in Tengnoupal district.
These folks have been displaced 15 months in the past because of the state’s ethnic battle.
This was the primary time Manipur’s “internally displaced folks” have been wounded in police motion .
Greater than 100 folks from a reduction camp at Akampat in Imphal East district participated within the rally, with the intention to march to the CM’s secretariat to submit a memorandum.
Many locals joined in, shouting slogans equivalent to “Ship us again to our properties”. Police stopped them in Singjamei space and a confrontation ensued. This escalated into clashes, with police utilizing tear fuel and the protesters responding by throwing stones.
A journalist from an area TV channel was allegedly assaulted by police whereas protecting the rally, regardless of figuring out himself.
The conflict occurred when the meeting was sitting for monsoon session. The CM expressed displeasure at using tear fuel in opposition to displaced folks and assault on a journalist.
